Snapshot of the week:
This week we will be setting off to Cider Hill to go apple picking! The students have been doing a lot of work in preparing for our trip. We have been working hard in math working on counting strategies. We are focusing on four: 1. count and scoot, 2. count and touch, 3. count and check, 4. use a ten-frame. You can have your child share and practice these strategies with you at home! Another focus for the week is to check our pencil grip. It is very important that the children are using the "squeeze" method. (Use thumb and pointer finger to "bite" pencil, then let the pencil rest on the other three fingers.) We will continue using this method to practice our letters in Fundations. I will begin sending home worksheets for extra practice at home.
Our class has also begun meeting in Open Circle. During Open Circle, we bring our chairs to the rug and use the "talking ball". This meeting is an opportunity to discuss things that are going on in the classroom, as well as strategies for conflict resolution. Right now, our focus is on remembering the names of our classmates and making sure we are being active listeners!
What's coming up next week?
